The UKZN Solar Team has been designing and building solar cars since 2012 when a group of mechanical engineering students and two academics at UKZN's School of Engineering took the plunge and built a solar-powered vehicle for the Sasol Solar Challenge. The primary aim is to foster a level of engineering talent and excellence in UKZN’s already very capable undergraduate and post-graduate students that is only attainable through the passion created by a project such as this. The project has created an enthusiasm in students to continue research in renewable and sustainable energy after their undergraduate degrees are attained. This opens up doors for research and development in a vital field where more is certainly needed. The project has developed a spectacular set of engineers and has inspired passion, dedication and imagination in numerous other engineering students. |
