The UKZN Solar Car team reached Knysna last night but admits to having a rough start. With two days left in the great Solar Car Challenge race from Pretoria to Cape Town, UKZN's Solar Car team lies in second place amongst the SA entrants, just 45 km behind the leading SA car.
“The team encountered difficulty after an electrical problem, rolling blackouts, flat tyres, and a broken trailer. This caused very low moral especially since the team only started the race half way through day 2. Since Bloemfontein, the team has performed amazingly and is hot on the heels of the current SA leaders. We are very excited for the next few days of the competition, the team is happy and motivated to win,” said team leader Kirsty Veale.
Despite the technical difficulties the team is extremely motivated to be the top South African team at the finish line. Shuvay Singh, one of the students that worked on the car as well as one of the drivers says that he is amazed at how the car is improving as the race goes along. Goodluck team! Go grab the number one spot, iKlwa! |
